Q: What information does the Motorcycle Product Index give me that I cannot get already?

A: Probably not a lot if you don't mind trawling numerous websites and thumbing through a multitude of awkward printed catalogues every time a customer asks you a question. However, it is the ease with which you will be able to access that information which will save you a considerable amount of time and therefore money. The beauty is that it will all be in one place.
Q: But why do I need the service?

A: Put very simply - to make your life easier and to help you save and make more money. So that you can concentrate on what you do best - selling the products, not chasing around everywhere finding out all sorts of answers to simple questions which other people are better placed to handle for you. Also to promote yourself and the products which you can and potentially could supply.
Q: What advantages will I gain if I use the service?
A: This service is the fastest and easiest way to acquire and supply product details. Even if you have websites, provide CDs/DVDs etc or even have a bespoke dealer section, the Motorcycle Product Index is by far and away the simplest way to transfer vast amounts of product data between partners.

For retailers especially this will allow you to offer thousands of products that previously you could never consider due to the time and effort of maintaining the product data.

Because we now have thousands of consumer members joining us we can promote your new products instantly as they notify us of their current interests.

If you sell to trade customers then all your products can so easily be incorporated into their product portfolios giving them more of a reason to sell your products. Price changes can be communicated virtually instantaneously to them as well. New products can be launched onto the market much more quickly and can be in front of consumers in a few button clicks.

If you buy from trade suppliers then you will be able to find suppliers of products much more simply, you will be able to select thousands of their products quickly and accurately and begin selling them much faster. All information will be at your and more importantly your customers' fingertips increasing the chances of a successful sale.

As more suppliers sign up so our ranking will increase and the traffic will increase to this site. We aim to list all brands currently on the market so if someone is looking for your type of product the chances are they will end up here at some stage. Therefore if your products are here users will be able to view the products and be directed to retailers selling them.

Logically following from the above, the retail members who join in the early stages will benefit most from all this traffic as it will be directed to their websites and not many others.
Q: What disadvantages will I have if I do not use the service?

A: The majority of the industry will naturally gravitate towards using the service as most people prefer an easier life with a lot of work effectively taken care of by a third party especially when it will save them money.

If you sell to trade customers, then you will not be able to promote your products and information changes (i.e new products, price changes) as quickly and your customers will tend to favour those suppliers who are able to get information to them quickly via the service as they will be able to pull data in a single common format.

If you buy from trade suppliers then you will not have a single point of access for product information where everything is in a consistent format. This means it will take much more work for anyone pulling together all the information for websites, price lists, brochures, etc from a variety of sources in different formats.

Because of the traffic described above if someone is looking for your type of product the chances are they will end up here at some stage. Therefore if your products are not here users will only be able to view competitors products that are here and be directed to retailers selling them instead.
Q: What levels of memberships are there?

A: At the very minimum you should at least register so that we have your details and customers can be directed to you based on your location.

Next up you should sprecify (through your account) all the brands that you sell because when customers look for a particular brand we can point them to your website or physical store.

Then once you really appreciate the benefits you can create your own product portfolio, either yourself or from your suppliers portfolios. Users looking for specific product details will then be directed to you.

Therefore the more you do the more custom will come your way. Although you are using this service to do most of the work for you!!
Q: How much does it cost to use the The Index?

A: For trade suppliers there is no cost if you are providing information to your customers or creating your own portfolio from your suppliers' portfolios of products to feed your website. If you use the Index just for reference and do not contribute to providing product information to a wider audience then there will be a fee. However membership for this type of user will not form part of the initial stage and these 'reference users' will only be allowed membership at a later stage. We also intend to create product information where it is missing but you will have to pay per product to get 'ProductIndex created' information into your portfolio. It is therefore more cost effective to ensure that your suppliers have a portfolio in the Index and you can draw from that for free.
Q: How easy will it be for me to get my products into the The Index?
A: There are currently 3 ways.

1. You can enter them individually through a simple screen if you do not have many products.

2. You can create a spreadsheet in a format we specify and load this directly into your portfolio.

3. You can select products from your suppliers portfolios. At a later stage you will be able to supply information directly from your existing systems utilising XML.
Q: How easy will it be for me to get information about my products out of the The Index?

A: Very easy. First of all you select the products you are interested in from just 1 item to your entire portfolio. There will be filters so that you can select certain brands or categories and other criteria. Then you select the data items you require and finally the format you require the data in. Click a button and you'll have the file of product information that you need for a variety of tasks.
Q: Can I use the The Index just for reference?

A: Yes you can. If you do not wish to create your own portfolio you can just join and use the service for information purposes only. You will however have to pay an annual membership fee which has yet to be finalised. Basically the more you participate the more you will be rewarded both from a cost point of view and from an ability to supply an excellent service to your customers.
